West Lancs Gundog Club

West Lancs Gundog Club contacted us recently for sponsorship of their Working Tests taking place on Sunday 12th June 2011.

Nick Powell emailed us to say: "Our day was a great success. The morning started off dry and breezy for the Novice Test but by the time we broke for lunch (10 minute cup of tea and a sandwich) the rain started and didn't let up until we had finished. Everyone was cold and soaked through but thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you ever so much for supporting our Club!"

Nick also entered a Four Dog Spaniel Team for West Lancs Gundogs in the Invitational Open Gundog Test at the BASC Game Fair at Bodelwyddan in St Asaph on Sunday 26th June 2011. But at the last minute he was asked to enter two additional teams in an eight team event. Having only run in this competition once before (he represented the Gwynedd Team in 2010) he says he was nervous enough entering one team but to enter three he said he was beside himself with anxiousness!

The teams consisted of the following members:

West Lancs Springers - Nick Powell, Jaison Toon, Steve Denholm and Gary Smith
West Lancs Cockers - Jaison Toon, Gary Smith, Ken Gaskell and Jon Paul Rimington
West Lancs A/V (2 ESS & 2 Cockers) - Paul Grugel, Daz Fairclough, Dave Connell and Ron Cheetham

The results were:-

1st Team - West Lancs Springers
2nd Team - The Mavericks
3rd Team - The Little Imps
4th Team - West Lancs A/V (Joint 4th with Gwynedd)
5th Team - West Lancs Cockers
6th Team - Dove Valley
7th Team - Arfon

Judges
Keith Carter & Dan Shotton

Best Dog with highest points - West Lancs Springers Gary Smith with 94/100

Nick said: "It was a very warm day and everyone struggled to stay focussed, including the dogs. But everyone from the Club achieved what was asked of them and we all came away knowing that we had done our best, some even got recognised for it in the awards! We are very proud of everyone who took part and for the consistency in training over the period before hand too."
